In 2024, Cooley Oysters made significant progress in reducing its packaging footprint, particularly in the use of pallet wrap. The company decreased its pallet wrap consumption intensity from 211.2 m/t in 2023 to 133.2 m/t in 2024, outperforming its milestone target by 32.9%. This achievement reflects a focused and strategic approach to packaging optimisation across its operations.

A key driver of this success was the implementation of an onsite policy aimed at raising awareness among staff about the importance of minimising pallet wrap usage. This initiative helped embed sustainability into daily operations and encouraged more mindful use of materials. Staff engagement played a crucial role in ensuring the policy’s effectiveness and in fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

In addition to internal awareness efforts, Cooley Oysters made a decisive change in its supply chain by switching all suppliers that previously used heavier micron pallet wrap. This transition to lighter, more efficient materials contributed significantly to the reduction in packaging intensity, without compromising the safety or integrity of the company’s products during transport.
