In 2024, Finnegan’s Farm made measurable progress in reducing fertiliser intensity across its operations, decreasing from 1,150 kg/ha in 2023 to 1,145 kg/ha. This performance surpassed the milestone target by 8.5% and reflects the company’s commitment to more sustainable and efficient agricultural practices.

A key contributor to this improvement was the purchase of a new fertiliser spreader, which enabled more precise application and reduced waste. The company also added another GPS unit to its fleet, enhancing accuracy in field operations and supporting better input management across its crop production.

Finnegan’s Farm continued to prioritise crop rotation as a core sustainability strategy. In 2024, straw cropping was completed on oil seed rape and beans ground, helping to improve soil health and reduce dependency on synthetic inputs. These practices contribute to long-term soil fertility and resilience, aligning with regenerative agriculture principles.

Innovation also played a role in the company’s sustainability journey. In collaboration with Agrotopia PELE Food, Finnegan’s Farm began setting up a hydroponic system to grow wheatsprouts without fertilisers. This initiative represents a forward-thinking approach to sustainable food production and demonstrates the company’s willingness to explore alternative growing methods.
