In 2024, Java Republic made exceptional progress in sustainable packaging, increasing the percentage of recyclable primary and secondary packaging from 76% in 2023 to 99.43%. This performance significantly exceeded the company’s milestone target by 4.8%, demonstrating a strong commitment to reducing environmental impact through packaging innovation.

A major driver of this success was the transition of all hand-packed 1kg and 227g coffee ranges, as well as filter coffee products, into recyclable packaging formats. These changes mark a substantial shift toward circular packaging solutions. The company is also in the process of phasing out remaining stock on two additional product lines, after which these too will transition to recyclable formats.

Progress was also notable in the area of traded goods packaging. Java Republic increased the percentage of recyclable packaging in this category from 13.39% in 2023 to 45.61% in 2024, far surpassing the milestone target by 19.7%. This improvement demonstrates the company’s holistic approach to packaging sustainability across its entire supply chain.

To support and sustain this momentum, Java Republic embedded sustainability and packaging improvements into its New Product Development (NPD) and Research and Development (R&D) policies and procedures. This strategic integration ensures that future innovations align with the company’s environmental goals and that packaging sustainability remains a core consideration in product design.
