Pig Trade & Prices

Prices: For the week ending 27th June, the average reported deadweight price paid for Grade E pigs in Ireland has held at €1.76/kg (excluding VAT). Producer prices have returned to the range of €1.74/kg-€1.78/kg across processors this week.

Current prices remain 20% lower than the same week last year, when prices averaged €2.18/kg. Across Europe, pig prices are showing signs of stabilisation. The EU average price for Grade E carcasses are unchanged at €1.56/kg (excluding VAT) and is €0.57/kg below the corresponding week in 2025 (€2.13/kg).  The Polish pig prices increased significantly this week by €0.17/kg to €1.47/kg, while Sweden’s price dropped by €0.04/kg to €2.38/kg.

Throughput: Slaughter activity remains robust. Combined throughputs for the first 26 weeks of 2026 are just over 1,732,057 head, which is just over 64,000 head higher than the same period in 2025. For the week ending 27th June, total slaughtering’s amounted to 64,170 head, including 1,979 sows and 10 boars.

Overall, there has been a 3.7% increase in fattener pig throughput compared with the same period last year, signalling strong supply despite softer price trends.
